Big Sur California, Big Sur elopement, California Elopement photographer, California Wedding Photographer
Alicia and Kody’s Big Sur California elopement was a coastal dream come true. We kicked off the day at their hotel, where they got ready separately before heading out for their first look. Even on an intimate elopement day, it’s always such a special moment when we’re able to pull off a first look—it adds that extra bit of anticipation and emotion, especially when it’s just the two of you (plus their adorable pup, of course!).
Their sweet dog joined us for the entire adventure, hiking along the trails and being the best little sidekick. I had photographed Alicia and Kody for their engagement session in Lake Tahoe, so being with them again for their wedding day felt incredibly full circle. They were just as joyful and laid-back.
Alicia’s bouquet was stunning—a whimsical mix of coral, soft blues, and crisp whites that popped perfectly against the wild, windswept cliffs of the coast. Her dress and long veil caught the breeze beautifully, making for some of the most romantic, windswept portraits.
We explored two gorgeous locations for their elopement day. After spending time along the iconic Big Sur coastline, we made our way to the Calla Lily Valley, a hidden gem just off the coast where seasonal blooms line the trail. We were lucky enough to catch the flowers still blooming in early May, which felt like such a gift. The soft white lilies paired perfectly with the dreamy light and added a totally different vibe to their gallery. It was the best of both worlds—cliffs and coastlines, then a lush, quiet floral valley.
Big Sur is hands-down one of my favorite places to photograph elopements in California. The rugged coastline, dramatic cliffs, and panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean create a backdrop that feels both wild and magical. Waves crash below while fog and light dance across the hills, giving every session its own unique mood. With countless trails, quiet overlooks, and hidden gems along Highway 1, it’s the perfect spot for couples who want to elope in nature with breathtaking scenery at every turn. Whether you’re planning something simple or more styled, Big Sur delivers unforgettable moments every time. Big Sur is one of California’s most iconic and scenic destinations, located along the central coast between Carmel and San Simeon. It’s about a 2.5-hour drive south from San Jose or roughly 3 hours from San Francisco, making it a popular weekend getaway for Bay Area couples. If you’re coming from Los Angeles, expect around a 5–6 hour drive up the coast—but with views like these, it’s absolutely worth it. The dramatic cliffs, ocean mist, and winding Highway 1 make every moment of the drive part of the experience.
