Karen and Tyler’s engagement session at Sparks Lake was everything you’d hope for an early fall evening in Bend. The Lake greeted us with calm reflections and the kind of golden sunset glow that makes the entire landscape feel like it’s lit from within. We wandered along the shoreline, moving from one tucked away spot to the next, each offering a new perspective of the water and the mountains beyond. Later in season, as the lake levels drop, little pockets of land and hidden trails start to appear, and we took full advantage of them, exploring areas that are not accessible earlier in the summer season. It felt like we had the whole place to ourselves.
Karen and Tyler were such a joy to photograph, playful, relaxed and completely wrapped up in each other. From laughing together to slowing down for quiet moments against the glow of the setting sun, their energy shifted so naturally with the evening. There was never a rush, it was simply two people in love enjoying one of the most stunning spots in Central Oregon. Sessions like this are why Sparks Lake is one of my favorite locations in Bend. The way the light lingers, the openness of the water and sense of adventure that comes with exploring its edges always makes for such memorable photos.
About Sparks Lake:
Sparks Lake is a high mountain lake located about 25 miles west of Bend along the Cascade Lakes Highway. Sitting at over 5,000 ft in elevation, it’s framed by incredible views of South Sister and Broken Top. the lake is shallow, which mean later in the season much of the water recedes and reveals grassy meadows, rocky inlets and hidden shoreline spots. Making it a unique location that changes throughout the summer and fall.
