Working with Caroline and Matt for their Crane Prairie elopement was such a blast! I really connected with them both and that connection ended up being one of my favorite part of their day.
Originally, we had planned to hike to a beautiful lake I had suggested that perfectly fit their vision: a spot with water deep enough so they could jump in after sealing their union with a kiss during their ceremony. And we were not going to change this plan.
However, intense wildfires last September forced us to pivot, the road was closed and we needed a new location. They instead landed on Crane Prairie, where they rented a pontoon boast tha Caroline even drove herself (so fun!). Before heading out on the water we took advantage of the gorgeous surroundings by capturing some of their portraits of them and their guests on the pier and by the resort, soaking in the peaceful lake vibes.
Their closest friends and siblings joined them for the intimate day on the water. They also hired Megan from Curated Mess to help prep and coordinate the day. Megan brought in all the best and cute touches: a gorgeous charcuterie board and drinks as well as insulated wine glasses as party favors and tasteful decoration for the boat.
For Caroline and Matt’s elopement ceremony we picked a spot in the middle of the lake, where the light hit just right. Though the air was a little smoky from nearby fires, the day was absolutely gorgeous. After their closest friend married them, Caroline and Matt jumped into the cold lake to celebrate, followed by most of their guests, making the moment even more joyful and memorable. Despite the unexpected changes and planning challenges, they embraced the day fully and made it an absolute blast.
Crane Prairie Reservoir is a stunning location in Central Oregon, about a 30-minute drive from Bend and just 20 minutes from Sunriver. It’s one of many beautiful lakes you’ll find along the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway, offering calm waters, mountain views, and a laid-back atmosphere. The surrounding forest and open lake make for versatile photo opportunities, and the peaceful setting provides a private, intimate feel that’s ideal for elopements and small gatherings.
