Chapman Beach engagement session with a surprise proposal
Mattea and Chris’s Chapman Beach engagement session was an evening to remember. I first heard from Chris when he reached out with a sweet plan—he wanted to propose to Mattea and was thinking about tying it into their engagement session. After chatting for a bit, he decided to pop the question before our shoot, so she could be fully in on the fun once we hit the coast. And honestly? It worked out perfectly.
We met at Chapman Beach, one of my absolute favorite hidden gems on the Oregon Coast. It’s just north of the more popular Cannon Beach, but with far fewer crowds and a more peaceful, open feel. The views are incredible—from Haystack Rock in the distance to the rolling sand dunes and wide, sandy shoreline that’s perfect for running around (which these two absolutely did). Chapman Beach has quickly become one of my go-to spots for coastal engagement sessions.
Mattea and Chris were so easy and fun to photograph. They couldn’t stop laughing the entire evening, and their energy made the whole session feel effortless. We ran along the beach, explored the dunes, and soaked in that golden Oregon Coast light as the sun dipped lower. Their joy was totally contagious, and it shows in every single photo.
They traveled up from California for a short getaway, and Chris took full advantage of the trip to plan the proposal. I loved being part of this sweet chapter in their story—and I’m so excited to say I’ll be heading their way soon to photograph their beautiful California wedding!
If you’re torn between Cannon Beach and Chapman Beach for your engagement session, Chapman is such a great option. You still get views of Haystack Rock without the heavy foot traffic, and the wide-open dunes and soft light make it feel a little more intimate and relaxed—perfect for couples who want a quieter, more playful vibe on the coast.
